The Dorm Room Bar: Autumn Punch

This version of one of my favorite drinks, Dark ‘n Stormy, is an great option for any fall party–with only a few ingredients and minmal preparation, autumn punch is a cost-effective, easily prepared drink that can be made in large batches. The apple cider gives this classic cocktail an updated flavor for fall while bubbly ginger beer complements the rum perfectly. Take advantage of the in-season apples and apple cider at your local farmer’s market, if possible. Instead of buying pre-made apple cider, try making Alex’s Mulled Pear Cinnamon Cider, and letting it cool before using it for this recipe.

Autumn Punch
Serves 1

2 ounces dark rum
5 ounces apple cider
5 ounces ginger beer
1 apple (for garnish)

Add ice to glass. Pour all ingredients into glass. Cut apple into thin slices and then cut the slices in half. Add slices to glass for garnish. Note: If you are making a large bowl of punch for a party, you may also want to add some cinnamon sticks for garnish for a nice decorative touch.
