Look Ma, No Oven!: Banana Milkshakes

Whether or not you’re observant, Lent seems like the perfect opportunity to renew some of your New Year’s resolutions. By the time February rolled around, my fervent vow to start yoga seemed like a distant memory. Total yoga classes attended: 0. Well done me. But I’m betting that all of you were a little more dedicated to your resolutions. I believe in you.

However, if you did happen to slip up a little bit, now is your chance to get back on track! So many people intend to lead a healthier lifestyle come January first. I, myself, thought that I would reduce my chocolate consumption to, oh, let’s say once a day. A few days ago, I realized that not only had I let dreams of downward-facing dogs fly out the window, I had also just consumed my weight in chocolate. Everyone indulges on occasion, but occasionally seems to have evolved into daily in my life. So, as sad as it may seem, I am giving up sweets for Lent.

It is going to be a very long forty days, but man oh man am I excited for April 8. No Peep or chocolate bar will be spared. They’re not going to know what hit them. But until that glorious day, I will be so well behaved. It’s going to be hard, but, seeing as I am incredibly stubborn, I really think I can do it this time. In order to get me through over a month without sweets, I have a secret weapon: the Banana Milkshake.

What sounds quite sinister is actually the picture of health. Milkshake is sort of a loose description for what this actually is. Maybe smoothie would be more fitting? Anyway, it is sweet and nutty, creamy and delicious. A chocolate replacement if such a thing exists. How could you go wrong?

**Recipe**

Banana Milkshakes
Serves 1

Ingredients
2 frozen bananas*
1/4 cup almond milk
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Note: if you only have room temperature bananas, just add a few cubes of ice when you blend.

Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth. Enjoy cold.
